How does UNDP work with the Thai government?
UNDP works with our partners in the Royal Thai Government on an almost daily basis. Our primary partners within the government are the Thailand International Development Cooperation Agency (TICA) and the Department of International Organisations, both under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We also work closely with the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB) as well as the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
What legal framework does UNDP operate under in Thailand?
The agreement “Concerning Assistance from the United Nations Special Fund” (as UNDP was known then) was signed on 4 June 1960 by H.E. Mr. Thanat Khoman, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, on behalf of the Royal Thai Goveernment, and Mr. Paul G. Hoffman, Managing Director of the UN Special Fund. Since then UNDP projects have been implemented through operating agreements covering five-year cycles (see below) and formulated in cooperation with the Thai government.
What operating framework does UNDP operate under in Thailand?
In Thailand, UNDP works under a Country Programme Action Plan agreed upon with the Royal Thai Government. The current action plan covers the years 2007 through 2011. This in turn is part of the United Nations Partnership Framework for Thailand (UNPAF) 2007-2011, agreed to in 2006 by the Royal Thai Government and all UN Agencies with programmes in Thailand.
