The UN Secretary-General received Millennium Development Goals Report from the Prime Minister of Thailand
14 July 2004: H.E. Mr. Kofi Annan the United Nations Secretary-General, was presented, yesterday, the first Thailand Millennium Development Goals Report by the Prime Minister of Thailand, Dr. Thaksin Shinawatra, in conjunction with his official visit to Thailand for the opening of the XV International AIDS Conference.
"The Report demonstrates Thailand 's commitment to the Millennium Development Goals as evidenced by the fact that we have incorporated all of the MDGs into course of our national development strategy", Prime Minister of Thailand, H.E. "This report is eloquent testimony to Thailand's remarkable success in reaching most, if not all, MDG targets well ahead of schedule", said the UN Secretary-General, H.E. Mr. Kofi Annan on receiving the report. Click for a full speech by the UN Secretary-General (85Kb).
The report establishes a new set of MDG-Plus targets for poverty reduction, education, health, gender equality and the environment, tailor-made for Thailand and much more ambitious than those agreed internationally.
The report was endorsed by the Cabinet of the Royal Thai Government on 22 June.
Thailand 's Millennium Development Goals Report 2004 is jointly published by the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB) and the United Nations Country Team in Thailand.
