Know your rights and HIV/AIDS with cartoons

7 October 2004: A cartoon book on information of human rights and HIV/AIDS can now be easily read and understood by Thais. "HIV/AIDS: stand up for human rights" was translated into Thai language and will be widely distributed to school children in Phuket.

Roughly 20,000 copies of the newly published Thai version of the comic book will be disseminated by the Life Home Project - a non-profit organization based in Phuket. The organization is committed to social development for women and children infected with HIV. The comic books will also be widely distributed to schools in Bangkok.

The purpose of introducing the cartoons in Thai is to make the information understandable for youngsters, to raise awareness in the field of human rights and HIV/AIDS. The book provides answers to the most frequently asked questions on how to address HIV/AIDS and human rights.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) facilitated the translation, with grants from the World Health Organization (WHO), the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

The cartoon book can be read on-line from the web site:http://www.undp.or.th/focusareas/programme.html
